I have started making homemade granola. And it is surprisingly easy! Also, it tastes better than store bought, and is most likely healthier, and costs less. We like to eat it with yogurt for breakfast or a snack. I let the kids eat it on their Aero Table and Stool set, and yes it is usually a little messy.
Here is a good recipe that I have been using which I found at www.FamilyFun.com
Crunchy Homemade Granola
4 cups of rolled oats 1 cup of wheat germ 1 cup of chopped walnuts or slivered almonds 1/2 cup sesame seeds 1/4 cup of brown sugar 1 tsp cinnamon 1/4 tsp salt 1/3 cup of honey 1/3 cup of canola oil 1/3 cup of water 6 oz dried sweetened cranberries or other dried fruit such as cherries, raisins, papaya, etc.- Heat oven to 300 degrees. In large mixing bowl, stir together oats, wheat germ, nuts, sesame seeds, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt.
- Make a well in the dry ingredients and add the oil, honey, and water. Toss the mixture until well combined and then spread it evenly on a cookie sheet.
- Bake for 40 minutes or until lightly browned, stirring every 10 minutes to keep mixture from sticking. Let it cool completely, then stir in the cranberries or dried fruit. Makes about 7 cups.
